Universal Daycare (Universal Child Care) is New Mexico’s new program that gives every family access to free child care—no matter your income, job status, or immigration status.
Starting November 1, 2025, New Mexico became the first state in the nation to offer this level of support to families.

Applying is simpler than it sounds, and Smart Start can guide you step-by-step. We can help
you apply onsite when you book a tour.
To apply, you will need:
• A picture ID
• Proof of New Mexico residency
• Birth verification for children in the home
• Provider information (you can list Smart Start Learning Center)
